Social factors determine your way of thinking, the emotions you feel, and your likes and dislikes. American psychologist, Urie Bronfenbrenner, formulated the Ecological Systems Theory to explain how the inherent qualities of children and their environments interact to influence how they grow and develop. Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model is a theory of educational psychology that studies human development over time. Urie Bronfenbrenner was a Russian-American developmental psychologist whose bioecological model was integral to the formation of American Headstart pre-kindergarten programs. H Bioecological Systems Theory Urie Bronfenbrenner was one of the first psychologists to adopt a holistic perspective on human development via his Bioecological Systems Theory, which had a widespread influence on the way psychologists and other social scientists approach the study of human beings and their environments. Although generally well received, Urie Bronfenbrenner’s models have encountered some criticism throughout the years. Most criticism center around the difficulties to empirically test the theory and model and the broadness of the theory that makes it challenging to intervene at an any given level. Bronfenbrenner´s theory is also suited for the description of human socialization.

Bronfenbrenner's theory explains that there are certain cultural and social factors in the immediate environment of a child affect child development and experience. In the immediate vicinity of the child, there are many levels, or systems that can affect and influence the development of children. Bronfenbrenner’s work was very important in understanding a systematic approach of human and social development. His bioecological theory has provided links to why children each develop differently and what aspects of development are in the child’s control and which are not. This thesis explores the potential of Bronfenbrenner’s Bio-ecological Model of Human Development (Bronfenbrenner and Morris, 2006) as a framework for theory and research in psychology, sociology and education. It draws on other well-known conceptual approaches, particularly Bourdieu’s theories of social reproduction, habitus, field and cultural Shop for Books on Google Play.
